Odysseuksen päätuottaja Laura Kröger kirjoittaa julkisessa Facebook-postauksessaan aiheesta seuraavasti:

Odysseus – The Story of a Larp exhibition opened last week in the Finnish Museum of Games.

That is actually a huge deal! The amount of positive visibility it accumulates for the hobby is significant. Being displayed in a mainstream museum where the majority of the visitors are very much the core target audience to get interested in larping is big.

It is also a great reference going forward and makes larp more recognized when applying for funding or booking venues. As well as a huge step towards shaping the image people have about larp and recognizing its significance in CV even if done as volunteer work.

I am beyond proud of everything we did with Odysseus and how our work has made it possible to showcase larping to larger audiences. Odysseus is hands down the coolest thing I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of. I’m so grateful to everyone who took part in making all this reality.

This is also personally a huge accomplishment. To see something I have been leading to be displayed in a museum. And to have been able to produce this exhibition.

The exhibition is open until 26.10.2025 and I wholeheartedly recommend for all who can to go and visit! To those who can’t here are some pictures I took from the opening event. I will also add here the speech I held in the opening event to summarize what Odysseus is.

“Hi!

I’m Laura Kröger, the chairman of Illusia ry, the association behind Odysseus and the lead producer and narrative designer of Odysseus 2024. Most of you probably already know what Odysseus is, but I’ll briefly explain what this game project is about.

Odysseus is a live-action role-playing game (LARP) that was first organized in 2019 and was rerun last summer in an even more polished version.

For this project over 200 volunteers transformed Torpparinmäki Comprehensive School in Helsinki into an interactive spaceship. Through set pieces, props, sounds, lights, and systems, we created the most immersive and realistic experience possible of a journey through space.

A total of three events were organized, each lasting five days, with the actual larp being roughly 50 hours. During the larp, players stepped into the shoes of the crew of the spaceship ESS Odysseus and the civilians rescued aboard in a distant future.

Odysseus draws inspiration from various series, movies, and games, but its world and story are original creations by our team.

Also at an international level Odysseus is an exceptionally large-scale LARP project. A vast number of professionals in their field contributed in creating this larp, including experts in event production, marketing, software development, sound and lighting design, set design, costuming, graphic design, photography and much more. The entire larp was created as volunteer work, and conservative estimates place the total amount of work at around 30,000 hours.

Odysseus received widespread recognition in Finnish media and has been praised by larpers worldwide. Nearly 1,000 people from 30 different countries signed up for the larp. Each run had 104 player spots, meaning a total of 312 players were able to take part. The player spots were allocated through a lottery.

Odysseus 2024 was recognized with the Deed of the Year by Ropecon ry, this award is given for a meritorious project, activity, publication or other achievement in the field of non-digital games. Odysseus 2019 won the Best International LARP category at the UK Larp Awards, an award which Odysseus 2024 is also currently nominated for.

While Odysseus is an exceptional showcase of skill and determination in the world of LARP, for those who participated in the project, it is above all a community that made this all possible. Creating a larp like this wouldn’t be viable without the immense number of skilled, dedicated, and wonderful volunteers who committed themselves to the project. I hope this exhibition offers a small window into the world that Odysseus 2024 was.”
